Pedal-Assist Range
A regular mountain bike relies entirely on your legs, while a Burchda e-MTB adds a motor and battery that kick in as you pedal, so climbs that would normally wear you out become manageable, and you can cover more ground in the same ride time.
A sensor picks up on when you're pedaling and how hard, then the motor adds power on top of that. On Burchda's dual-motor, all-wheel-drive bikes like the HC26 and Y3 AWD, that power splits across both wheels, which is what gives you extra grip on sand, mud, or a steep loose climb where a single-motor bike would spin out.
Depends on the mode you pick. The HC26 gives you throttle and cruise control options that let you cruise without pedaling at all, while pedal-assist mode only kicks in once you start pedaling, so you can switch between getting a workout and taking it easy depending on how your legs feel that day.
Top speed depends on the motor setup you're riding. The HC26 hits up to 32mph with its 3000W peak dual-motor system, while the Y3 AWD pushes that further to 40mph thanks to its 5000W peak dual hub motors, giving you real acceleration off the line rather than a slow crawl uphill.
It comes down to battery size and how hard you're leaning on the motor. The HC26's 48V 30Ah battery gets you up to 80 miles in pedal-assist mode, so a full day on the trail without hunting for an outlet is realistic, though pushing higher assist levels on steep climbs will bring that number down.
Climbing ability comes down to torque, not just wattage. The HC26 delivers 150Nm of torque, and the Y3 AWD pushes that to 210Nm, with both handling grades up to 35 degrees, which covers most of the steep, technical climbs you'll run into on a typical mountain trail.
A single motor keeps things lighter and simpler to maintain, while dual-motor bikes like the HC26 and Y3 AWD split power across both wheels, so you get noticeably better traction when the ground gets loose.
The Y3 AWD takes this furthest with 5000W peak power and 210 Nm of torque, built for riders who want maximum pull on the steepest, loosest climbs.
If you're mostly riding fire roads, gravel, or moderately bumpy trails, a hardtail saves you weight and one less thing to maintain. But for rock gardens, roots, or steep technical descents, a full-suspension model like the HC26 or Y3 AWD will keep your wrists and back a lot happier at the end of the ride.
If you're planning long backcountry routes, steep sustained climbs, or multi-trail days where a regular bike would leave your legs cooked by lunchtime, models like the HC26, R5 PRO and Y3 AWD are built exactly for that, with full suspension and dual motors soaking up rocky, loose terrain that a single-motor bike would struggle on.
This comes down to your local trail rules more than the bike itself. Since Burchda e-MTBs support pedal-assist modes, they typically fall within what most trail systems allow, but it's still worth checking with your local trail association before heading out.
A Burchda e-MTB is built to hold up for years of regular riding, not just a season or two. The 6061 aluminum alloy frame and core mechanical parts are designed to outlast most components on the bike.
What actually determines how long yours lasts comes down to two things: how you store the battery (keeping it between 20-80% charge when not riding extends its life significantly) and how consistently you handle basic upkeep like chain lubrication, brake checks, and hinge or bolt tightening after rough rides.
Riders who stay on top of these two habits typically get 3-5 years of strong performance out of the battery alone, with the frame and drivetrain lasting well beyond that.
